POSH Complaint Against GMCH Principal Sent for Action: Suspension Sought

State department flags serious allegations, calls for urgent response under legal provisions

Guwahati: A formal complaint under the POSH framework has been raised against Achyut Chandra Baishya, Principal of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), prompting the Assam government to initiate action over alleged workplace misconduct.

The Women and Child Development has taken cognisance of the complaint and referred it to the state’s Medical Education and Research Department for further proceedings. Officials have emphasised the need for swift interventions, including consideration of suspending the accused during the inquiry process.

The complaint raises concerns of sexual harassment, misuse of authority and retaliatory behaviour within the workplace.

The grievance was submitted by Dr Mythili Hazarika, an associate professor of Clinical Psychology at the college, through the centralised CPGRAMS portal, bringing the matter to the attention of authorities.

In its communication, the department has underlined the importance of examining the case in line with provisions of the POSH Act and ensuring that due legal procedure is followed while addressing the complaint.
