Party names nominees across key constituencies as it advances electoral strategy and continues alliance discussions

Guwahati: The Indian National Congress on March 19 released its third list of candidates for the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections, announcing nominees for 22 constituencies across the state.
The list, approved by the party’s Central Election Committee, was issued by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal. With this announcement, the Congress continues to consolidate its electoral preparations ahead of the upcoming polls.
Among the key candidates, Manik Ch. Brahma has been fielded from Kokrajhar (ST), while Sapali Marak will contest from Baokhungri. In Dhubri, the party has nominated Baby Begum, and Aftab Uddin Mollah will represent Jaleswar. Pradip Sarkar has been named from Abhayapuri, and Matilal Narzary from Sidli Chirang (ST).
The list also includes candidates for several tribal and minority-dominated constituencies, such as Rafie Daimary (Tamulpur ST), Soren Daimari (Udalguri ST), and Sanjeeb Teron (Howraghat ST), indicating the party’s focus on diverse voter segments.
In Upper Assam, Ghuna Buragohain has been nominated from Lakhimpur, while Sibanath Chetia will contest from Makum. Zubair Anam Mazumder has been fielded from Algapur-Katlicherra in the Barak Valley.
The latest list reflects a mix of experienced leaders and new faces, as the Congress seeks to strengthen its grassroots presence. The party is also continuing talks with other opposition groups in an effort to build a broader alliance ahead of the elections.
