Manipur Woman Assault Case: Delhi Police Apprehend Juvenile, Launch Raids to Arrest Others

Police say the woman was assaulted after objecting to harassment by a group of men in a park near Saket court; she suffered minor injuries and was taken to Safdarjung Hospital. One juvenile has been apprehended while raids continue to trace the remaining accused.

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday said a criminal case has been registered after a woman from Manipur was allegedly assaulted near the Saket District Court Complex in South Delhi. The Police adds that one juvenile has been apprehended while raids are underway to arrest the remaining accused.

In an update posted on social media, Delhi Police states that a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of law, and multiple teams had been deployed to identify and apprehend those involved in the incident. “Delhi Police teams are in constant touch with the victim and are providing all necessary assistance. Multiple teams have already been deployed to identify and apprehend the accused at the earliest,” the police said.

Later, the police confirmed that one juvenile had been detained in connection with the case. “One juvenile has been apprehended. Continuous raids are being conducted to nab the remaining accused,” the police said. Further adding that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the woman, along with her friends, was taking a walk in a park near the Saket court complex. A group of men allegedly made inappropriate remarks at them, and when the woman objected to the harassment, the situation escalated and she was reportedly assaulted.

The injured woman was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination and treatment. Preliminary reports indicated that she sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover soon.

Police said officers reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and contacted the victim. Further action will be taken based on her statement as the investigation progresses.

The case has drawn attention amid recent concerns over harassment faced by people from Northeast India in the national capital. Last month, three women from Arunachal Pradesh living in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar alleged racial abuse by a couple in their neighbourhood, an incident that led to the arrest of the accused and sparked widespread outrage.
