Zubeen Garg Honoured Posthumously with Three Filmfare Awards Assamese 2026

The late cultural icon receives Best Playback Singer (Male), Lifetime Achievement Award, and Special Recognition for Roi Roi Binale, accepted by his father Kapil Borthakur.

Guwahati: Cultural icon Zubeen Garg was posthumously honoured with three significant awards ahead of the Filmfare Awards Assamese 2026, held on Friday, February 27. His family received the accolades on his behalf.

The late artist, widely celebrated as the voice of Assam, enjoyed a career spanning over three decades, lending his voice to thousands of songs across Assamese, Hindi, Bengali, and other languages.

Known for his powerful vocal range and emotional depth, he played a key role in modernising Assamese music while remaining deeply rooted in the region’s cultural identity. Beyond singing, he contributed as a composer, lyricist, filmmaker, and performer, shaping contemporary Assamese popular culture.

The special recognition for Roi Roi Binale holds particular significance. Released on October 31, 2025, just weeks after his passing, the musical film became a statewide tribute. Cinema halls across Assam witnessed unprecedented crowds, with fans queuing from as early as 3 am. Several theatres scheduled special early screenings or screened only Roi Roi Binale initially, honouring the late artiste.

The grandly mounted film, long envisioned by the singer, recorded one of the widest releases for an Assamese production and drew a strong box-office response, allowing viewers a collective farewell to a musical icon.
