New sports facilities at Sualkuchi and Kamrup strengthen grassroots infrastructure and create modern training spaces for Assam’s young athletes

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today dedicated two major sports infrastructure projects to the people, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots sports and nurturing young talent across Assam.
In Sualkuchi, the Chief Minister inaugurated the state-of-the-art Sualkuchi Sports Complex, constructed at a cost of Rs 67.51 crore. The facility features a FIFA-standard football ground, an eight-lane athletics track, and a modern indoor arena. It offers professional training and competition spaces for aspiring athletes.

Continuing the push for sporting development, he also dedicated the Bongshar Mini Stadium in Kamrup. The stadium is built at a cost of Rs 11.97 crore. The stadium includes a FIFA-standard turf, modern amenities, and a 500-seat gallery. The studium is anticipated to create new opportunities for local youth and boost community-level sports.
Describing the projects as key milestones in Assam’s sporting resurgence, the Chief Minister said the government is focused on building quality infrastructure that fuels youth aspirations and transforms the state into a strong hub for sports excellence
