Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates facility: inaugural passengers welcomed with traditional Assamese honours

Guwahati: The new integrated terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport officially commenced, marking a significant upgrade to air travel infrastructure in Assam and strengthening connectivity across the Northeast.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the terminal with the ceremonial ribbon cutting at the check-in counters and departure gate, joined by Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, and representatives of Akasa Air. The launch formally flagged off passenger services from the new facility.
Following the ceremony, the Chief Minister greeted departing passengers and presented them with the traditional Assamese gamusa, symbolising the state’s hospitality and cultural pride on the milestone day.
Celebrations continued with a cake-cutting ceremony, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, presentation of a commemorative certificate, and the handing over of the first boarding pass to the inaugural passenger.
Senior officials, including Amber Dubey, CEO – Aero, AAHL, and Mukesh Nankani, Chief Airport Officer, along with airline representatives and members of Guwahati International Airport Limited, were present at the event.
The new terminal is expected to enhance capacity, improve passenger experience and position Guwahati as a key aviation hub for the region.
