Armed gang held staff and customers at gunpoint; police launch manhunt for remaining accused

Barpeta: Four persons have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a jewellery store in Assam’s Barpeta district, police said on February 21, while efforts continue to nab the remaining suspect involved in the crime.
According to officials, five individuals allegedly stormed the jewellery outlet in Barpeta Road on Friday afternoon and carried out the robbery at gunpoint. The accused reportedly threatened staff and customers before looting valuables from the store.
Store manager Dimpal Talukdar said the attackers tied the hands and mouths of employees during the incident. Some staff members also sustained minor injuries amid the chaos.He claimed that jewellery and cash worth approximately Rs 25 crore were taken away by the robbers.
Police later detained four suspects from Goalpara district and brought them to Barpeta for questioning. The Senior Superintendent of Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to recover the stolen items and apprehend the remaining accused.
Authorities said search operations have been intensified in nearby areas as part of the ongoing crackdown.
