The Congress leader states alliance is crucial in the present political climate, urges parties to complete talks with a positive approach

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has emphasised the need for greater unity among opposition parties in Assam, stating that cooperation and collective strategy are essential in the current political landscape.
Speaking about the ongoing seat-sharing discussions, Gogoi said he is making his “best possible efforts” to move forward by bringing together all major opposition political parties in the state. He underlined that collaboration, rather than competition among like-minded parties, would be key to presenting a strong alternative to the ruling side.
Addressing questions over why the Congress has agreed to give up several seats during negotiations, Gogoi clarified that the decision is guided by long-term strategy rather than short-term gains. According to him, unity remains the top priority at this stage.

“Many people have asked why Congress has given up so many seats. My answer is that I strongly believe unity is extremely important at this moment. Given the present situation, an alliance is crucial for Assam,” he said.
The Congress leader further appealed to alliance partners to approach discussions constructively and avoid unnecessary delays. Urging all stakeholders to adopt a positive mindset, Gogoi called for the seat-sharing process to be completed at the earliest through mutual understanding and cooperation.
Political observers say the statement signals the Congress party’s push to consolidate opposition forces ahead of key electoral battles in the state, with an emphasis on teamwork and consensus-building over individual party interests.
