Priyanka Gandhi Arrives in Guwahati for Two-Day Visit: Begins Congress Screening Meetings

AICC Screening Committee chairperson offers prayers at Kamakhya Temple before marathon organisational discussions with block leaders and party units ahead of Assam Assembly polls.

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Guwahati on Thursday for a two-day visit to oversee the party’s screening process and strengthen preparations for the upcoming Assembly.

The MP landed at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in the morning and was warmly received by senior party leaders and workers. Soon after her arrival, she visited the revered Kamakhya Temple, where she offered prayers and sought blessings for the nation’s peace and prosperity.

Following the temple visit, Gandhi proceeded to Rajiv Bhawan, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, to chair a series of organisational and screening-related meetings scheduled.

Gandhi is later scheduled to visit the Manabendra Complex, which will serve as the venue for the remainder of her meetings. According to party sources, Gandhi will hold closed-door discussions with block presidents, followed by a session with district presidents in the evening. Additional interactions with MPs, senior leaders, and representatives from various Lok Sabha constituencies are also planned.

The meetings are aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots network and reviewing preparations ahead of upcoming political activities in the state.

Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi said the visit is strictly organisational, with no public rallies planned. “She will focus entirely on meetings with block presidents and party functionaries as part of her responsibility as screening committee chair,” he stated.

Jitendra Singh added that screening committee members will interact with Block and Zilla Congress Committees, frontal organisations, and grassroots workers to gather feedback for candidate selection.

Party leaders described the exercise as a structured and consultative effort, with the first list of candidates likely to be released by the end of February as the election campaign gathers momentum.
