Chief Minister Conrad Sangma hands over land for InterContinental Hotels Group resort; inaugurates skate park and new school building to boost tourism, youth development and education.

Shillong: Tura marked a major milestone in its growth journey as Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma attended the land handover ceremony for the upcoming Holiday Inn Resort, the first five-star hotel in Tura and the Garo Hills.
The project, backed by an investment of Rs 130 crore by the InterContinental Hotels Group, is expected to strengthen the region’s hospitality sector and enhance tourism prospects.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said several key infrastructure projects are underway to support long-term development. These include the expansion of the Shillong runway, revival of Tura Airport, development of heliports, establishment of IT parks, a medical college, and the construction of the new State Secretariat and an Additional Secretariat.
He noted that these investments would boost the local economy, generate jobs and create new opportunities for youth and entrepreneurs, while significantly improving the experience of tourists and visitors.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Nokrek Skate Park at Tura Government College under the state’s Sports Infrastructure Development initiative. Developed as a CSR project by Decathlon and implemented with partner organisations, the park aims to provide safe and structured facilities for young skateboarders.
