Assam Police issues a traffic advisory restricting vehicle movement on the existing Chandmari Flyover from January 30, 2026, with multiple diversion routes and special arrangements for city buses and public transport to ensure safety and smooth flow

Guwahati: In view of the ongoing construction and merging of the new GNB Road Flyover with the existing Chandmari Flyover, the Assam Police has imposed a complete restriction on traffic movement along the Chandmari Flyover for all types of vehicles. The restrictions have come into effect from January 30, 2026, and will remain in place until the completion of the construction work.
The advisory has been issued to facilitate the safe development of the junction and to prevent congestion and inconvenience to commuters. Residents and daily travellers have been urged to avoid the stretch and follow designated alternative routes.
Vehicles approaching from the Zoo Road side have been directed to use Rajgarh Road via Apurba Sinha Path or proceed through South Sarania Road, G.S. Road, Dr B. Baruah Road, and G.N.B. Road. Those travelling from the Chandmari side may move via Bamunimaidam and M.R.D. Road, with further diversions through Hatigarh Chariali, Railway Colony Road, or the Noonmati–Mathgharia route.
Special arrangements have also been made for public and goods-carrying vehicles. City buses, including EV buses and metro share taxis, will operate on modified routes and provide shuttle services in select areas. Vehicles coming from Adabari via GNB and MRD Road will operate only up to the Patharquarry Roundabout.
Similarly, buses travelling from the Ganesguri side through R.G. Baruah Road towards Adabari will run up to Zoo Road, Tiniali. From there, they will be diverted through Mother Teresa Road (MT Road) to Mathgharia Police Point, then proceed via Maniram Dewan Road (MRD Road) to Adabari through Noonmati, Bamunimaidam and Chandmari.
During this period, Metro Share Taxis (MST/Magic) starting from Noonmati will ply up to Chandmari Police Point via MRD Road, take a U-turn, and return to Noonmati. These services will operate as shuttle services for commuters. Bus operators have been strictly instructed to maintain lane discipline, use only the left-most lane, and avoid overtaking to reduce congestion.
The decision was taken during a special RTA meeting chaired by the Vehicles Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro), prioritising commuter safety and the timely completion of the flyover project. Authorities have sought public cooperation for the smooth implementation of the measures.
