Assam Honoured as ‘Most Proactive State’ in Regional Aviation

State receives national recognition at Wings India 2026 for outstanding performance under the RCS–UDAN scheme, reflecting sustained efforts to expand air connectivity and boost development across Assam

Guwahati: Assam has earned national acclaim for its strides in strengthening regional air connectivity, receiving the award for ‘Most Proactive State under RCS–UDAN (Priority Areas)’ at Wings India 2026 held in Hyderabad. The recognition highlights the state government’s focused and coordinated approach toward improving aviation infrastructure and expanding access to remote and underserved regions.

The award was accepted on behalf of the Government of Assam by Shri Manvendra Pratap Singh, IAS, Commissioner of Transport. Officials noted that the honour underscores the state’s consistent efforts to enhance mobility, promote tourism, and stimulate economic activity through improved air links.

Over the past few years, Assam has actively leveraged the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN) to bring smaller towns onto the aviation map, reduce travel time, and encourage investment. The initiative has played a crucial role in connecting the Northeast with major cities while ensuring affordable air travel for citizens.

Reacting to the achievement, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared his appreciation in a message on social media, stating, “A proud moment for Assam as our efforts to strengthen regional aviation receive national recognition. This has been made possible due to Adarniya  Narendra Modi Ji’s strong focus on regional connectivity and constant support. RCS–UDAN is expanding connectivity and boosting growth.”

The accolade reflects Assam’s growing role as a key aviation hub in the Northeast and signals further progress in infrastructure-led development. With continued support and strategic planning, the state aims to deepen connectivity and unlock new opportunities for trade, tourism, and regional growth.
