The Gauhati High Court allowed the case to proceed in the Sessions Court, kept Siddharth’s flat under conditional attachment, dismissed defence requests for documents from Singapore and scheduled the charge hearing to begin on March 19.

Guwahati: Court proceedings in the case related to the alleged murder of Zubeen Garg advanced significantly as the High Court cleared the way for trial. Judges fixed March 19 for the charge hearing, when the court will decide whether formal charges should be framed and the case should move into full trial.
The court upheld the attachment of Siddharth Sharma’s flat. However, it made the attachment conditional. Authorities will lift it only after submission of a bank guarantee, as the payment linked to the property remains disputed.
In another key relief, the court ordered the reopening of Shyamkanu Mahanta’s bank account. Lawyers clarified that the decision came on technical and compliance grounds rather than on the factual merits of the allegations.
The defence had sought additional documents from Singapore, but the court rejected the plea. It ruled that the prosecution’s existing investigation records are sufficient and allowed inspection of available materials instead.
Reacting to the order, Garima Saikia Garg welcomed the court’s directions. She said the prosecution is ready to proceed without delay. With the March 19 hearing approaching, the case is expected to progress day by day under the due legal process.
