Guwahati: Two of the seven accused in the case pertaining to the death of renowned singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg, namely Shyamkanu Mahanta and Sandipan Garg, withdrew their bail applications on Thursday in the Kamrup District and Sessions Judge Court in Guwahati.
According to the details of the cases, earlier, all five accused had filed applications for bail prior to the hearing, citing cooperation with the investigation agency. However, ahead of the scheduled hearing, Shyamkanu Mahanta and Sandipan Garg withdrew their applications for bail through their lawyers.
Meanwhile, bail hearings for the other three arrested accused, Amritprabha Mahanta, Paresh Baishya, and Nandeshwar Bora, have been held. The verdict has been reserved, with an expected release on January 30th. This is now being closely awaited by the family, friends, and supporters of Zubeen Garg, as well as the general public.
In the midst of all these events, social media saw a posting from Garima Garg, which is an emotional message expressing the mindset of the family. She stated that “Days are passing one after another. Legal proceedings are underway in court in Zubeen Garg’s name.”
However, expressing their belief in the legal system, she states, “We are still waiting, with prayers and faith in the law, to know the truth of what happened to him” The family, as well as the people of Assam, are waiting earnestly to know the real truth of all that has occurred to Zubeen Garg.
Calling the issue larger than a single family, she wrote, “This is not just our appeal, but the appeal of everyone across Assam and the world who loves Zubeen until justice is delivered; no accused should be granted bail.” Garima further emphasised that a special court is required to conduct a speedier trial, as delayed trials are accelerating the family’s misery.
With the case progressing towards the upcoming critical stage, it remains in the focus of public attention, with hopes pinned to an open and clear-cut judicial verdict.
