UPPL’s Pramod Boro, BJP’s Jogen Mohan and Terash Gowalla Files Nomination for Rajya Sabha Polls

BJP and UPPL intensify Assam Rajya Sabha contest as candidates submit nominations on the final day, marking the start of a high-stakes race for the state’s three vacant seats

Guwahati: Pramod Boro, president of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), along with two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates, Jogen Mohan and Terash Gowalla, filed their nominations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Assam today.

The submissions were made on the final day for filing nominations for the polls scheduled on March 16, 2026, to fill three vacant seats in the Rajya Sabha as the terms of the current members expire.

The BJP has fielded Cabinet Minister Jogen Mohan and MLA Terash Gowalla of Duliajan for two of the three seats, while the third seat has been allotted to its ally, the UPPL, represented by Pramod Boro.

Boro, who previously served as the Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council, filed his nomination in the presence of senior party leaders and supporters. Several UPPL leaders accompanied him, expressing confidence in his success in the upcoming election.

The election schedule specifies that the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 6, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 9. Polling, if required, will be conducted on March 16, 2026.

The filing marks the formal beginning of the contest for Assam’s Rajya Sabha representation, with BJP and UPPL candidates aiming to secure their positions in the upper house of the Parliament.
