Two Dead, Several Injured in Srigouri Traveller Crash

Children among those in ICU at SMCH as early-morning collision with speeding truck adds to a string of fatal road accidents in the Barak Valley

Sribhumi: A tragic road accident at Srigouri in Badarpur, Sribhumi district, in the early hours of Saturday claimed two lives and left around 20 passengers injured after a Traveller vehicle collided with a speeding truck.

According to eyewitnesses, the mini bus was heading towards Bazar Ghat from Badarpur when a 12-wheeler tripper truck, allegedly coming from the wrong side at high speed, rammed into it, pushing the vehicle off the road. The truck driver reportedly fled the scene.

The injured were rushed to Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), where two persons were brought dead. Among the survivors, two children have been admitted to the ICU and three others to the Central ICU. Eleven patients remain under treatment in different wards, while two with minor injuries were discharged. Most victims are from the Hojai district. Hospital authorities, led by Principal Dr Bhaskar Gupta, are closely monitoring their condition.

The accident comes barely a day after another fatal crash near Silchar’s Clock Tower tri-junction, where a dumper truck allegedly hit a motorcycle, killing a 35-year-old man before fleeing.

Locals say reckless late-night movement of dumpers and trippers has become common, raising serious concerns about road safety and enforcement across the Barak Valley.

Authorities are yet to announce further action as grieving families hope for accountability and safer roads.
