State Government Launches Monthly Research Support Under ‘Atal Vichal Agragami Assam’

A total sum of Rs 25,000 aid for research scholars, Rs 40,000 for Divyang scholars, has been announced under the scheme, scheduled to roll out on February 11

Guwahati: Marking a significant step towards strengthening Assam’s research ecosystem, the state government has announced a new monthly financial assistance scheme for research scholars, under the scheme ‘Atal Vichal Agragami Assam’. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through a social media post on ‘X’, underscoring the government’s focus on promoting research, innovation and academic excellence.

Under the scheme, eligible research scholars will get Rs 25,000 per month, and Divyang (persons with disabilities) research scholars will be provided Rs 40,000 per month as financial assistance. The scheme is going to be launched on February 11, 2026.

While emphasising the significance of the initiative, the Chief Minister states that “it is a good time to be a research scholar in Assam,” which indicates the government’s effort to provide a favourable environment for excellence. The initiative will help alleviate the economic burden on research scholars so that they can concentrate on their research.

The ‘Atal Vichal Agragami Assam’ initiative is a manifestation of the state government’s overall effort to enhance the education and research community. In the past few years, the state government has launched various welfare and development programs aimed at students, youth, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

The scheme also promotes the government’s focus on equity and accessibility in education by providing more financial support to the Divyang research scholars. It is expected that this scheme will motivate more students to pursue research in the state and will also improve the contribution of Assam in the research output at the global level.

With the initiation of this program, Assam stands out as a state that emphasises knowledge development and innovation. The ‘Atal Vichal Agragami Assam’ program is anticipated to be a game-changer in the development of future researchers and the academic environment of the region.
