Amit Shah Announces Rs.100 Cr Boost, Anti-Infiltration Push at Mising Fest in Dhemaji

Union Home Minister, attending the 10th Mising Youth Festival in Dhemaji, announces special recruitment for Mising youth in security forces, major funding for festival infrastructure and calls for united action to protect Assam’s culture and demography

Dhemaji: The 10th Mising Youth Festival in Dhemaji drew national attention as Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the event and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to the welfare and development of Assam’s indigenous communities. The Union Minister was accorded a traditional welcome with symbols of Mising heritage, including the ‘Ribi Gaseng’ shawl, handwoven ‘Gadu’ chadar and the ceremonial ‘Mibu’ sword.

Announcing special provisions for the recruitment of Mising youth into the Central Reserve Police Force, Shah said employment opportunities would be expanded for tribal communities. He also highlighted that Mising has been recognised as a medium of instruction in 200 lower primary schools to preserve the mother tongue.

Highlighting employment opportunities, Shah announced special provisions to facilitate the recruitment of Mising youth into the Central Armed Police Forces, particularly the CRPF. He also declared a Rs. 100 crore allocation for the development of the festival area to improve infrastructure and elevate the event into a larger cultural platform of national prominence.

Addressing infiltration, the Union Minister alleged that unchecked illegal migration during previous regimes had altered Assam’s demographic balance. “If infiltration has to be stopped completely, help form a BJP government again. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, we will throw out infiltrators one by one,” he said, linking cultural protection with border vigilance.

He noted that over 10,000 youths had laid down arms following peace accords and emphasised that development had replaced unrest in the state. Citing enhanced central assistance, Shah said Assam received significantly higher funding in the past decade for roads and infrastructure.

The festival showcased the vibrant music, language and traditions of the Mising people, blending celebration with a renewed focus on opportunity and progress.
