Seven Foreign Nationals Sent to 11-Day NIA Custody in Terror Probe

Six Ukrainians and one US citizen accused of alleged illegal entry into Mizoram and Myanmar, links drone supply and training of insurgent groups

New Delhi: Delhi Court has remanded seven foreign nationals, including six Ukrainians and one United States citizen, to 11 days of custody with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a terror conspiracy case.

The accused were produced before Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma at Patiala House Court, where proceedings were held in a closed courtroom. The NIA had sought 15 days of custody to further its investigation.

According to the agency, the individuals entered India on valid visas but later travelled to Mizoram without the required Protected Area Permit. They allegedly crossed the border into Myanmar illegally and established contact with ethnic armed groups operating there.

Investigators claim the accused underwent training in Myanmar and were also involved in imparting training to these groups, some of which are believed to have links with insurgent outfits in India. The training reportedly included drone operations, assembly, and related technologies.

The arrests were carried out in a coordinated operation across multiple cities. Three Ukrainians were detained in Delhi, three in Lucknow, and the US national was apprehended in Kolkata.

The NIA further alleged that the accused facilitated the movement of drone consignments sourced from Europe, which were intended for use by these armed groups. The agency is also examining digital evidence and communication records to trace the broader network and identify other individuals involved in the alleged conspiracy.

Officials said further custody is required to uncover the full extent of the operation, including funding sources, routes used for cross-border movement, and the role of potential collaborators.
