Mass induction of former Congress and AGP workers reflects growing dissatisfaction at grassroot level following recent political developments in the constituency

Margherita: More than 300 workers joined the Raijor Dal during a mass induction programme held in Assam’s Margherita constituency, signalling a shift in local political alignments.
The joining event took place late on Wednesday at the Raijor Dal office. Participants included former Congress and AGP workers, along with several local residents from different villages, highlighting a broad-based shift at the grassroots level.
The development comes in the wake of senior Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi’s recent move to the BJP, following which a section of Congress workers in Margherita began distancing themselves from the party.
Addressing the media, party representative Rahul Chetry said, “We welcome those who have chosen to move forward with the vision of building a progressive and stronger Assam. Our commitment now is to serve the people with responsibility and integrity.”
Chetry further added, “Recent developments have sent a strong political message from Margherita. A section of workers has aligned with the opposition, claiming to push for reforms. However, it is evident that personal interests and inducements have played a role in influencing certain leaders.”
Emphasising grassroots strength, he stated, “We believe that leadership is built on the strength of grassroots workers. Today, those very workers are standing firm, ready to defend the party’s ideals. If there are challenges, we are prepared to face them democratically. Margherita is open for a fair political contest.”
The large-scale induction of over 300 workers is expected to impact the political landscape of the constituency, as parties intensify efforts to consolidate support ahead of the polls.
