Public Hearings on Electoral Complaints in Nagaon Put on Hold

The Nagaon district released a public notice regarding the temporary halt of public hearings in connection with electoral complaints in three Legislative Assembly Constituencies

Nagaon: The Office of the District Election Officer, Nagaon, has released a public notice regarding the temporary halt of public hearings in connection with electoral complaints in three Legislative Assembly Constituencies, including 59-Barhampur, 60-Nagaon–Batadrava, and 61-Raha (SC). The Office has decided so for the sake of administrative convenience and for carrying out the crucial government business.

As per the public notice issued by the District Commissioner as well as the District Election Officer, Devashish Sharma, the proceedings have been put into abeyance until further orders are given. The situation was clarified by the administration to be purely procedural and would not impact the substantive assessment of complaints already filed by the public.

The District Administration assured the community of its commitment to the values of transparency, fairness, and public trust in matters concerning elections and administrative processes. It reiterated its commitment to considering all representations made to it through a free, objective, and impartial process strictly according to the due process of law. The authorities further reaffirmed their commitment that no eligible voter will be excluded and that all claims and objections are addressed within the prescribed procedure.

Moreover, the public has been strongly cautioned by the administration against submitting false, misleading, or vexatious complaints. Such complaints, if made through verification, will invite serious legal repercussions, including actions taken pursuant to Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, amongst other provisions.

The administration has urged the citizens to extend their support in recognising the grievances being raised and taking measures to address them, in addition to maintaining order. The notice has been sent as general information. Strict notice has been given in this regard.
