Congress leader expresses regret over the lack of dialogue, hints at a ticket-related dissatisfaction behind Bordoloi’s resignation

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on March 18 described the resignation of Assam leader Pradyut Bordoloi as “very unfortunate”. She indicates that the development may have been linked to dissatisfaction over ticket allocation ahead of the Assembly elections.
Speaking to the reporters, the Congress leader expressed regret that the situation escalated without prior discussion. “We wish there had been an opportunity to speak with him. It appears he was upset over a ticket-related issue.” She further underscores that a dialogue could have potentially prevented the outcome.
Gandhi’s remark comes at a crucial time for the Congress as it prepares for the Assam Assembly elections, where internal cohesion remains key to the electoral strategy. The development is being viewed as a setback for the party’s state unit amid an already competitive political landscape.
The situation has drawn further attention with the party fielding Prateek Bordoloi from the Margherita constituency, adding a new dimension to the unfolding developments.
The resignation also follows recent political shifts in Assam, including the exit of former state Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah, pointing to broader challenges within the party ahead of the polls.
The elections are expected to see a direct contest between the BJP-led government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Congress, which is aiming to regain power.
