Pradyut Bordoloi Accuses Congress of ‘Humiliation’: Questions Gaurav Gogoi in Letter to Jitendra Singh

Congress MP alleges humiliation within party, questions leadership over actions involving Gaurav Gogoi and Asif Nazar

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader and MP Pradyut Bordoloi has written a strongly worded letter to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of Assam, Jitendra Singh, expressing “pain and anguish” over what he described as the party leadership’s handling of certain incidents involving party members.

In the letter, Bordoloi wrote, “I am writing this letter to you with a lot of pain and anguish. I have always proudly said that whatever positions I achieved in life were because of the Congress party.”

However, he said recent developments within the party had deeply disturbed him. Referring to a police case in Nagaon, Bordoloi stated that authorities had arrested and charge-sheeted a person named Emdadul Islam in connection with an alleged violent attack. “Nagaon police on a suo motu investigation arrested and charge-sheeted Emdadul Islam, known history-sheeter of Lahorighat and a close associate of MLA Dr Asif Nazar,” he wrote.

Bordoloi further alleged that the accused later received a public welcome. “What was unpalatable for me was the ‘hero’s welcome’ given by Lahorighat MLA Asif Nazar to Emdadul Islam after he walked out of jail on bail,” he wrote.

The Congress MP also criticised the actions of the state party leadership. “I immediately rang up and protested to PCC President Gaurav Gogoi and requested him not to harbour the criminal nexus of Dr Asif Nazar,” Bordoloi stated in the letter.

The MP further claimed that despite his objections, the accused was later seen at a political event. “To my horror and humiliation, the history-sheeter was made to sit behind the PCC President on the stage along with Dr Asif Nazar at a party programme in Morigaon,” Bordoloi wrote. Bordoloi also alleged that his concerns were dismissed during a screening committee meeting in New Delhi. “My evidence and claims were termed false and fabricated, and the silence of the PCC President throughout the discussion was deeply humiliating for me,” he added.

The letter concludes with Bordoloi stating that he is sharing evidence with the party leadership while continuing to fight to “protect my dignity before the reactionary leadership of the state”
