Projects spanning railways, power, hydrocarbons and trade infrastructure were announced in the presence of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 13 inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of 13 development projects worth over Rs 19,577 crore in Guwahati, giving a major push to infrastructure, connectivity and energy development in Assam. The programme was held in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries.
Among the key announcements was the Rs 3,633.58 crore Furkating–Tinsukia double line rail project, aimed at strengthening railway connectivity in Upper Assam. The Prime Minister also initiated the development of cruise terminals at key locations, expected to boost river tourism and inland waterways in the region.

In the energy sector, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Rs 9,265 crore North East Gas Grid (Phase I) and the Rs 2,320 crore Lower Kopili Hydropower Project, both expected to significantly enhance energy security and industrial growth in the Northeast.
Major railway electrification works were also dedicated to the nation, including the Chaparmukh–Dibrugarh and Rangia–Murkongselek routes, which are expected to improve efficiency and sustainability in rail transport.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the PM Ekta Mall in Guwahati, aimed at promoting local products, traditional crafts and economic opportunities for artisans.

The Prime Minister further released the 22nd instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, providing financial assistance to farmers across the country.
Officials said the multi-sector projects covering hydrocarbons, power, railways and shipping are expected to accelerate development and strengthen Assam’s vision of becoming a Viksit Assam in the coming years.
