Kokrajhar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 13 virtually addressed a large public gathering in Kokrajhar from Guwahati, after adverse weather forced the cancellation of his scheduled programme in Kokrajhar. The PM launched several development initiatives worth Rs 4,574 crore
Despite heavy rain and unfavourable conditions, an estimated 1.5 lakh people reportedly gathered at the venue. Several leaders, including Hagrama Mohilary, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Charan Boro, and Biswajit Daimary, were present during the programme.

The programme in Guwahati was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, along with other dignitaries. During the event, the Prime Minister laid foundation stones and inaugurated multiple projects covering road, rail and bridge infrastructure across the state.
A major highlight of the announcement was Asom Mala 3.0, under which road infrastructure projects worth Rs 3,217 crore will be undertaken. The initiative includes widening 883 kilometres of roads across 34 districts of Assam and constructing 36 bridges to enhance connectivity across the state.

The Prime Minister also announced the construction of four flyovers and two bridges to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility. Additionally, Bhoomi Pujan was performed for the Jajiabari Chowk–Borbila road and the Bhuyankuchi–BDT Road in Nalbari district, projects that are expected to boost regional connectivity.

In the railway sector, the foundation stone was laid for a Rail Wagon Workshop at Bansbari, which is expected to generate employment and strengthen rail infrastructure in the region. The Prime Minister also flagged off three new Amrit Bharat and Express trains: the Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, Narengi–Agartala Express, and Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express, aimed at improving interstate travel and facilitating trade.
The projects are seen as a major step towards accelerating development and strengthening connectivity in the Bodoland Territorial Region and across Assam. The initiatives are also expected to support economic growth, improve mobility and contribute to long-term regional development.
