President Droupadi Murmu reflects on India’s constitutional journey and collective strength on the eve of the 77th Republic Day

New Delhi: As the nation observes the 77th Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the tone for the celebrations with a message focused on unity, progress, and the nation’s collective determination. In a brief and impactful message, Prime Minister Modi wished the nation on Republic Day and said, “Best wishes on Republic Day. May this occasion add renewed energy and enthusiasm in our collective resolve to build a Viksit Bharat.”
The Prime Minister’s greeting was accompanied by the traditional address by President Droupadi Murmu, which was given on the eve of Republic Day. In her address, the President looked back on India’s journey as a Republic and reiterated her faith in the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution. She said that the Constitution is the bedrock of the world’s largest democracy and the force driving the unity of the nation.

The President mentioned the contribution of the country’s icons, such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, noting their enduring influence on India’s unity and spirit of patriotism. The President also highlighted the contributions of citizens across sectors: farmers, armed forces, women, youth, scientists and entrepreneurs, stating that every section of society plays a role in strengthening the Republic.
There was a significant emphasis on women-led development, growth, youth empowerment, and the economic progress of India in the face of global uncertainties. The President reiterated that public participation and good governance are essential for the achievement of national goals.
Together, the Prime Minister’s call for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and the President’s message of constitutional faith and collective effort captured the spirit of Republic Day, rooted in pride for the past, responsibility in the present, and confidence in India’s future.
