Cycle distribution drive across Gabharu and Naduar blocks aims to improve school access and boost attendance

Tezpur: The Sonitpur district administration organised ceremonial distribution programmes to provide free bicycles to Class IX students for the academic session 2025–26, in a significant step towards strengthening student welfare and improving access to education
The main event was held at Tezpur Collegiate Higher Secondary School under the Gabharu Education Block, where 2,101 students from 32 schools received bicycles. The initiative is expected to ease daily commuting challenges, particularly for students travelling long distances from rural and remote areas.
MLA Prithiraj Rava formally distributed the bicycles in the presence of District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das, who highlighted the importance of such schemes in reducing dropout rates and encouraging regular attendance among students.

Moreover, a similar programme was conducted at North Jamuguri Higher Secondary School under the Naduar Education Block. On the occasion, Honourable MLA Padma Hazarika distributed bicycles to 934 students from 14 schools, extending the benefits of the scheme to a wider section of learners.
The distribution ceremonies were attended by Inspector of Schools Prabhat Das, officials from the Education Department, teachers, and students, reflecting a collective commitment to promoting education and supporting young learners.
By enabling safer and more convenient travel to schools, the initiative aims to empower students, especially girls and create an environment where financial or logistical barriers do not hinder education.
The programme underscores the government’s continued focus on inclusive education and ensuring that every child has the means to pursue learning with confidence and dignity.
