First-ever recipient of Israel’s highest parliamentary honour as talks deepens defence, technology and strategic cooperation
New Delhi: In a historic moment underscoring the growing strength of India–Israel relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the prestigious Medal of the Knesset, the highest distinction awarded by the Speaker of Israel’s Parliament, during his address to the Knesset. He became the first-ever global leader to receive the honour, marking a significant diplomatic milestone for India and reflecting the deep trust and friendship shared between the two democracies.
During his address, the Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s steadfast solidarity with Israel and emphasised the shared values of democracy, innovation, resilience and security cooperation that bind the two nations. He noted that the recognition was not a tribute to an individual but to the enduring partnership between India and Israel, accepting the medal with humility and gratitude. His speech received a warm response from lawmakers, symbolising the strong goodwill between the two countries.
The visit also included high-level engagements with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog, where discussions focused on strengthening defence collaboration, expanding cooperation in agriculture, water management, innovation, and advanced technologies, and accelerating trade and investment ties. Both sides explored avenues for joint research, co-production in defence manufacturing, and deeper people-to-people exchanges, further elevating the strategic partnership.
