Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced fresh job appointments and resuming of state programmes after Davos, along with the high-profile visits, signal the Centre’s sustained focus on development and governance in the state

Guwahati: Assam is set to witness a flurry of political activity later this month, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have lined up a series of high-level political engagements in the region.
An official announcement was made by the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a Facebook Live event from Davos, where the CM is attending the World Economic Forum. He stated that Amit Shah is expected to arrive in the state on January 30, followed by Prime Minister Modi’s visit on February 14.
During his visit, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate a highly anticipated bridge over the river Brahmaputra, connecting two important parts of Guwahati. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to formally dedicate the IIM in Guwahati to the nation, marking a major milestone in Assam’s higher education landscape. There are a few additional projects as well that include the proposed rail coach manufacturing unit at Kokrajhar, which the Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for.
Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Dibrugarh to lay the foundation stone of Assam’s second Legislative Assembly complex and address a public rally. This reflects the Centre’s emphasis on strengthening administrative infrastructure in the region.
In yet another disclosure, the Chief Minister announced that a Peace Area with an Advanced Landing Facility is being developed at Moran in Dibrugarh district. Once operational, it will significantly cut travel time between Dibrugarh and Itanagar through direct air and improved road connectivity.
The Chief Minister stated that the Prime Minister’s February visit will be his third to Assam in just three months, underlining sustained central engagement with the state. Both visits, therefore, signify a renewed momentum in the development process of Assam.
Furthermore, sharing his experience at the global summit, the Chief Minister stated that Assam’s first official participation at the World Economic Forum marked a significant milestone in positioning the state on the global investment map. He reaffirms that these interactions with leading industrialists, global investors, and major corporate groups had yielded investment commitments estimated between Rs. 80,000 crore and Rs. 90,000 crore. These investments are likely to spur economic growth and strengthen key industries while creating large-scale job opportunities throughout Assam.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister informed that he will return to Assam on 24th January, from where he will fly straight to Barkhetri to attend a programme as part of a women’s entrepreneurial scheme. Followed by his visit to Doomdooma on 25th January, where he will launch the ‘Eti Koli Duti Paat’ initiative. The Chief Minister adds that he will hoist the National Flag at the Republic Day programme in Dibrugarh.
While speaking to the people about employment, he stated, “New appointments will be given in different departments, including PWD, Fisheries Department, along with several other important sectors.
