Nagaon Launches EVM–VVPAT Awareness Drive to Boost Voter Confidence

District administration inaugurates demo centre and mobile exhibition vehicle to educate citizens on the voting process

Nagaon: The Nagaon district, on February 9, 2026, launched a special awareness campaign aimed at clearing doubts and addressing curiosity among voters about the functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), while strengthening public trust in the electoral process.

District Commissioner and District Election Officer Devashish Sharma formally inaugurated an EVM demonstration centre along with a mobile EVM exhibition vehicle at the District Election Officer’s office premises. The programme was attended by Election Officer Shekharan Phukan, ACS, Assistant Deputy Commissioner Tejas Agnihotri, IAS, and other officials and staff of the District Election Office.

The initiative seeks to encourage informed and active participation of citizens in the upcoming elections. The permanent demonstration centre allows voters to familiarise themselves directly with the machines and understand the voting procedure through hands-on experience.

Visitors can cast a mock vote and verify through the VVPAT system whether their vote has been accurately recorded. Officials said the step would particularly benefit first-time and young voters by improving awareness and enhancing transparency in the election process.

In line with the Election Commission of India’s guidelines, the administration has also introduced a mobile exhibition vehicle to extend outreach across the district. The vehicle will travel to schools, colleges, remote polling stations, and other public locations, delivering electoral education at citizens’ doorsteps. This ensures that even those unable to visit the district office can learn about EVM operations conveniently.
