Nagaland Police Issues Travel Advisory for Assam Amid Election Code

Heightened checks at inter-state borders prompt caution as authorities tighten surveillance ahead of Assam Assembly polls

Dimapur: In a precautionary move, Nagaland Police has issued an advisory urging people travelling to Assam to remain alert as the Model Code of Conduct is in force ahead of the Assembly elections.

Officials stated that security measures have been intensified along inter-state borders and other sensitive locations, with increased checking by election authorities to ensure smooth conduct of the polls. The advisory follows reports of travellers facing inconvenience during inspections due to lack of awareness of election-related guidelines.

The police cautioned against carrying large sums of cash without valid documentation, noting that it could lead to questioning or seizure. Similarly, those transporting valuables such as gold or silver have been advised to keep proper proof to avoid complications.

Travellers were also warned against carrying political materials, including posters or pamphlets, without prior permission, as this may attract legal action. Authorities further advised people to be prepared for multiple checks en route and to cooperate by carrying valid identification and necessary documents.

Nagaland shares a 512-km-long boundary with Assam, spanning several districts, making cross-border monitoring crucial during the election period. Polling for the 126-member Assam Assembly is scheduled for April 9, with counting set for May 4.
