Unbeaten 124-run stand powers dominant chase after Kalugamage’s three-wicket burst: Italy boost Super 8 hopes

Mumbai: Italy delivered a commanding all-round performance to secure a convincing victory over Nepal at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, combining disciplined bowling with a record-breaking batting partnership to strengthen their campaign in the T20 World Cup.
After winning the toss, captain Harry Manenti opted to bowl first, a decision that quickly paid off. Crishan Kalugamage led the charge with the ball, returning impressive figures of 3 for 18, dismantling Nepal’s top order and triggering a steady collapse. Struggling to build partnerships, Nepal was eventually bundled out for a modest 123 runs, leaving Italy with a manageable target.
What followed was a piece of history. Opening the chase, brothers Justin Mosca and Anthony Mosca produced a flawless batting display, stitching together an unbeaten 124-run partnership to seal the match without further loss. The stand marked the first-ever century partnership by siblings in T20 World Cup history, adding a unique milestone to the tournament’s record books.
Anthony played the aggressor, hammering 62 not out, while Justin anchored the innings with a composed 60 not out. Their calm yet authoritative approach ensured Italy cruised to victory with ease, never allowing Nepal a way back into the contest.
The comprehensive win earns Italy two crucial points in Group C, significantly improving their chances of qualifying for the Super 8 stage. With confidence high and momentum on their side, Italy will now gear up for a tougher test as they prepare to face England in their next fixture.
