Modi Unveils Rs 18,700 Crore Infrastructure Projects: Targets TMC at Kolkata Rally

Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 14 inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple road, railway and port projects worth nearly Rs 18,700 crore in Kolkata, stating that the initiatives would accelerate development in West Bengal and the wider eastern region.

Addressing the gathering, Modi said the projects would provide a major boost to infrastructure and trade. He highlighted the Centre’s push to expand railway infrastructure in the state and said several shipping and port-related projects would strengthen cargo handling capacity and improve logistics at regional ports.

Later, speaking at the Parivartan Sankalp rally at the historic Brigade Parade Ground, the Prime Minister launched a strong attack on the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Claiming that attempts were made to disrupt the rally, Modi alleged that bridges were closed and vehicles were stopped to prevent supporters from reaching the venue. “TMC has abused all of you who came to this rally by calling you thieves. But the people of Bengal know who the real thieves are,” he said.

The Prime Minister further alleged that the state government was blocking welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi for political reasons.

Targeting the ruling party, Modi said, “TMC’s politics of cuts, commissions and corruption has harmed farmers, the poor, the middle class and women. When TMC goes, houses for the poor will be built, every home will receive clean water, and the poor will get free treatment.”

He asserted that a BJP government in the state would work with the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” while ensuring accountability in governance.
