Me-Dam-Me-Phi Observed at Historic Habung, Call for Unity and Prosperity

Dhemaji gathering pays homage to ancestors as leaders urge people to follow Swargadeo Sukapha’s ideals and strengthen harmony among communities

Dhemaji: Me-Dam-Me-Phi was observed with reverence and cultural fervour at the historic Habung playground in Dhemaji, bringing together members of the Tai-Ahom community and local residents in a collective tribute to their ancestors and heritage.

The programme was organised by the Habung Development Management Committee in collaboration with the Tai-Ahom Students’ Union and several regional organisations. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from people across the region, reflecting the community’s deep-rooted respect for its spiritual traditions and history.

Attending the celebration, dignitaries paid heartfelt homage to the forefathers and offered prayers seeking peace, prosperity and well-being for all. The ceremony highlighted the enduring significance of Me-Dam-Me-Phi as a symbol of self-respect, cultural pride and ancestral remembrance among the Tai-Ahom people.

Addressing the gathering, Assam’s Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu emphasised the timeless ideals of Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha, the founder of Bor Asom, who united diverse communities under a shared vision of harmony and coexistence. They called upon the public to draw inspiration from his leadership and work collectively towards building a strong, inclusive and prosperous Assam.

The event also served as a reminder of the importance of preserving indigenous culture and fostering unity in a diverse society. Through prayers, participation and shared values, the celebration reinforced a message of togetherness and progress.

The observance at Habung stood not only as a religious and cultural ceremony but also as a reaffirmation of Assam’s rich heritage and collective future.
