The Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, chairs a high-level review to promote sustainable and diversified agriculture

Imphal: In a significant push to revitalise Manipur’s economy, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting to accelerate the adoption of the Integrated Farming System (IFS) across the state. The meeting was held at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The discussions focused on harnessing Manipur’s vast agricultural and horticultural potential to drive economic recovery through diversified and sustainable farming practices. Stressing the need for a comprehensive approach, the Chief Minister directed concerned departments to actively promote alternative crop cultivation along with allied agricultural activities, particularly in the hill districts, to enhance farmers’ incomes and strengthen rural livelihoods.
Officials explored strategies to integrate agriculture with animal husbandry, fisheries, and horticulture to ensure better utilisation of land and resources. The approach, they noted, would help farmers reduce risks from climate change and market fluctuations while improving productivity and income stability.

The meeting also deliberated on expanding export opportunities for agricultural and horticultural produce. Value addition, improved processing, and stronger market linkages were identified as key drivers for growth and long-term sustainability.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, the Chief Minister said integrated farming could act as a catalyst for employment generation, higher productivity, and balanced development across both hill and valley regions. He emphasised that the model would play a vital role in ensuring economic resilience and inclusive progress.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, Additional Chief Secretary Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Commissioner to the Chief Minister N. Ashok Kumar, Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation K. Devdutta Sharma, Director of Agriculture Peter Salam, and other senior officials.
