Extensive reshuffle affects key districts and top posts, including SSPs, Forensic Science Directorate, Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, and Guwahati Police Commissionerate, with officers directed to join new postings by March 5.
Guwahati: In a significant administrative move ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections, the Assam Home Department carried out an extensive reshuffle of police officers across the state, including key Indian Police Service (IPS) and Assam Police Service (APS) postings.
The reshuffle saw Dr. Robin Kumar, IPS (RR-2013), Director of the Directorate of Forensic Science, Assam, Kahilipara, transferred and posted as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Darrang, replacing Hemanta Kumar Das, who has been posted as SSP of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Branch, Assam, Srimantapur, Guwahati. Shri Mohan Lal Meena, SSP of Bongaigaon, has been appointed as the new Director of the Forensic Science Directorate, taking over from Dr. Robin Kumar.
Other key postings include Ms. Pankaj Yadav, IPS, former SSP of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Branch, who has been transferred to Bajali, while Shri Partha Protim Das, SSP of Cachar, has been posted as SSP of Nagaon.
Furthermore, Ms Somalin Subhadarsini, previously Commandant of APTC Dergaon and in additional charge of ERSS (112), Assam, has been appointed Principal of Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, Dergaon, taking over from Smti. Papori Chetia, who is now SSP of Sivasagar.
Further transfers include Shri Swapnaneel Deka, moving from Nagaon to Dhemaji, and Shri Singha Ram Mili, SSP of South Salmara, now appointed Commandant of the 1st AFPF Battalion, Basistha, Guwahati.
Additionally, Shri Hitesh Chandra Ray, SSP of Dhemaji, has been posted as Commandant of APTC, Dergaon, while Shri Numal Mahatta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Guwahati Police Commissionerate, has been posted as SSP of Bongaigaon.
Other senior officers reassigned include Shri Sanjib Kumar Saikia, SSP of Kamrup, now posted as SSP of Cachar; Shri Tabu Ram Pegu, SSP of Tamulpur, appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Guwahati; and Shri Mrinal Deka, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Guwahati, posted as SSP of South Salmara.
Finally, Shri Suman Chakraborty, SSP of Bajali, has been posted to Tamulpur, and Shri Balin Deuri, Commandant of the 1st AFPF Battalion, Basistha, Guwahati, is now Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Guwahati. Shri Subhasish Baruah, SSP of Sivasagar, has been transferred to Kamrup, completing the reshuffle.
The Home Department stated that these transfers, affecting key districts including Darrang, Nagaon, Cachar, Kamrup, Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Tamulpur, South Salmara, and Sivasagar, along with important posts in Guwahati and Dergaon, are aimed at strengthening policing and administrative readiness ahead of the Assembly elections.
