Assam government intensifies land recovery effort; 220 more hectares set to be cleared
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on his social media platform ‘X’ stated that a large-scale eviction drive in Sribhumi district has reclaimed 660 hectares of encroached land over the past two days, marking one of the most significant land recovery operations in the region.
Sharing an update on the ongoing exercise, the Chief Minister indicated that the administration’s efforts are far from over, with another 220 hectares identified for clearance in the next phase.
Officials described the drive as part of the state government’s sustained push to remove illegal encroachments and restore government land for public use and development purposes. The operation is being carried out with coordinated action by the district administration and law enforcement agencies.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government remains firm in its commitment to reclaiming encroached land across Assam and ensuring lawful utilisation of public resources. “The relentless pursuit continues,” the Chief Minister said, signalling that similar drives will proceed in other areas as well.
