Assam continues its tough stand against narcotics trafficking, with authorities seizing a large consignment of banned cough syrup in a fresh anti-drug operation.

Sribhumi: Assam’s intensified fight against drug trafficking continued with a significant seizure of banned cough syrup in Sribhumi district, as law enforcement agencies carried out a targeted operation against illegal narcotics movement.

According to officials, the Sribhumi Police recovered 37 cartons containing 5,496 bottles of prohibited cough syrup during the raid. One person was apprehended in connection with the case.

The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of the Assam Police to dismantle drug supply chains and prevent the circulation of banned substances, especially those frequently misused by traffickers.

Reacting to the development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated the government’s strict stance against narcotics, asserting that there will be “zero mercy for the drug mafia” and that the law will act decisively against offenders.

Authorities said such sustained operations aim to safeguard communities and protect the younger generation from the growing menace of substance abuse across the state.
