Major Arms Haul Recovered in Manipur’s Imphal West and East Districts

Security forces intensify operations, seize weapons, explosives, and communication gear over two days

Imphal: The security personnel have apprehended a large quantity of arms, ammunition, explosives, and combat gear from various sites in the Imphal West and Imphal East districts following an increase in operations in the last two days.

On January 23rd, a search operation was conducted in the adjoining areas of Ngairangbam and Khongakhul villages in Patsoi police jurisdiction of Imphal West District. During this operation, the law enforcement officials seized a modified .303 rifle along with a magazine, a single-barreled breech-loading (SBBL) firing weapon manufactured locally, five pistols with their respective magazine types, an air pistol, and a no. 36 high-explosive grenades.

The seized items also include 20 pieces of ammunition belonging to the .303 category, a handheld communication apparatus belonging to Baofeng, along with its charger, and a bulletproof jacket cover.

In another operation carried out by security forces on January 22, 2026, they seized a bigger quantity of weapons from the foothills of Chanung Hill Range in Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East District. The seized weapons consisted of a .303 rifle with a magazine attached, an SLR rifle without a magazine component, eight SBBL weapons, a revolver, a .22 calibre pistol with a magazine attached, and 24 live ammunition of various calibre bullets.

In addition to the five tube launching devices, six lathode shells, an MK-13-T cartridge, as well as the Baofeng walkie-talkie sets with batteries and charging devices, the police recovered the camouflage attire and related equipment that ranged from helmets to shirts and pants, belts, and caps.

According to officials, the recoveries are part of the ongoing efforts to control the armed activities, prevent further violence, and restore the normalcy situation. Further investigations in the area are in progress.
