Lovlina Borgohain Sports Complex Inaugurated in Lakhimpur: Assam CM Launches Other Key Projects

Modern sports facilities, urban lighting, education upgrades and river protection projects strengthen development across the district

Lakhimpur: Marking a major stride in strengthening Assam’s sports infrastructure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed Lovlina Borgohain Sports Complex at Saboti in Lakhimpur.

Developed in two phases, the complex has been designed to meet modern sporting standards. It features a transit house, an indoor stadium, staff quarters, two lawn tennis courts, a volleyball court, a football ground, an 8-lane athletic track, and a cricket stadium building with a 5,000-seat gallery. The campus also includes a cricket ground, a 2,380-seat football gallery, and modern lighting facilities suitable for hosting state-level tournaments and events.

The facility is expected to nurture emerging talent, inspire young athletes, and provide a professional training environment, further elevating Assam’s journey towards sporting excellence.

Expanding the momentum of development in the district, the Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several key projects from the sports complex premises. These included the new branch of the Government of Assam Press, road safety enhancement works under ASRIP on state highways and major roads, and the installation of 757 smart LED streetlights across North Lakhimpur town to improve urban amenities and safety.

Further, infrastructure development works were launched at North Lakhimpur University, alongside a flood protection project on the Somdiri River involving the construction of a protection wall and guide bund. The upgradation of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital was also taken up to strengthen healthcare services in the region.

Together, these initiatives aim to improve connectivity, education, healthcare, urban infrastructure, and flood resilience, paving the way for holistic growth and development in Lakhimpur.
