Programme held in multiple districts: CM’s address streamed live as thousands of labour families begin the process for land rights

Guwahati: In a significant step towards securing land rights for tea garden workers, ceremonial programmes for the distribution of application forms under the proposed Labour Line land settlement process were held across several districts of Assam on Monday.
Under the Sonari and Mahmora Legislative Assembly Constituencies, application forms were distributed across 53 tea estates covering 54 locations. The programme included a live streaming of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s address from Dinjoy Tea Estate in Dibrugarh, where the central launch of the initiative took place. District officials and representatives of concerned departments attended the events.

In Morigaon district, forms were distributed at the Rangamoncho of Gopal Krishna Tea Estate. MLA Ramakanta Dewri, also Chairman of the Assam Plain Tribes Development Corporation, attended as chief guest and said the initiative aims to ensure dignity and security for tea garden workers who have contributed to Assam’s development for nearly 200 years.
District Commissioner Anamika Tewari urged beneficiaries to fill out the forms carefully and warned them against dealing with middlemen or making any monetary payments. A total of 408 worker families received forms, with submissions scheduled over the next three days.

Meanwhile, the distribution process was also launched in Biswanath district following the passage of the land rights legislation in the Assam Assembly. Application forms were rolled out at 27 locations across tea estates, with senior district officials present.
The state government said the initiative marks a historic move to provide long-awaited land ownership and social security to tea garden communities across Assam.
