At a women’s empowerment event in Teok, the Assam Chief Minister levels serious allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, outlines the BJP’s election strategy, and sharpens attacks on opposition leaders

Teok: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 29 significantly raised the political temperature in the state with a series of sharp remarks targeting opposition leaders, while also hinting at an early Assembly election ahead of Bohag Bihu.
Speaking to reporters after distributing financial assistance, the Chief Minister accused Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi of having links with Pakistan, going as far as alleging foreign connections involving his family. He states “The truth does not change with time. I allege that Gaurav Gogoi has links with Pakistan, and so does his wife. If he has the courage, he is free to take me to court, I am not afraid.”
The Chief Minister publicly dared Gogoi to initiate legal action, asserting that details supporting his claims would be placed in the public domain in February. He maintained that the truth would eventually be established, one way or the other.
Looking ahead to the 2026 Assembly elections, the Chief Minister suggested that the polls could be held earlier than expected, depending on public mood and the Election Commission’s decision. He also shed light on the BJP’s internal preparations, stating that candidates have already been finalised in constituencies with a single aspirant, while electoral viability will determine selections in more competitive seats. He made it clear that party loyalty and grassroots work over the past five years would outweigh recent political switches.
The Chief Minister also criticised Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi and dismissed statements from Assam Jatiya Parishad leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi, questioning their political relevance. Attacking the Congress, the CM described it as a damaging force in Assam’s history and blamed it for demographic challenges in the state.
