Leaders hail milestone in Pakke Kessang as decades-old inter-state border uncertainty moves towards closure under the Namsai Declaration

Guwahati: Calling it a “historic milestone”, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the installation of the first official border pillar between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, describing the step as a breakthrough in resolving the long-pending inter-state boundary issue.
The Chief Minister said the development followed the signing of the Namsai Declaration and marked a decisive move towards ending decades of ambiguity along the shared border. He noted that the placement of the first pillar brings clarity and certainty for communities living in the border areas.

The pillar was installed at Seijosa in Pakke Kessang district through coordinated efforts by officials from both states. The demarcation exercise was jointly supervised to ensure accuracy and mutual agreement on the ground.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu also termed the move a significant achievement, saying it reflects a transition from prolonged disputes to peaceful coexistence and stability.
The initiative was supported by regional and district administrations, including leadership from Biyuram Waghe, chairman of the regional committee for Pakke Kessang. Officials said the Seijosa pillar will serve as a blueprint for further demarcation, strengthening cooperation and trust between the two neighbouring states.
