From Kartavya Path to Dibrugarh, Assam showcased cultural pride, economic momentum, and democratic spirit on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day

Dibrugarh: The Republic Day celebrations in Assam were headed by the state’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who hoisted the national flag at the Khanikar Parade Ground in Dibrugarh, marking the 77th Republic Day celebrations and symbolising the growing stature of Assam at the national and international levels.
Extending Republic Day greetings to the gathering, CM Sarma said that the day was about celebrating the democratic heritage of India and reaffirming our commitment to the Constitution. In a social media post, he wrote, “Celebrating our legacy, celebrating our achievements, celebrating the spirit of our democracy. Best wishes to everyone on #RepublicDay🇮🇳. On this special day, we reiterate our commitment to uphold the sovereignty of Bharat and serve Maa Bharti till our last breath.”
The Chief Minister started the day by paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, reiterating the values of truth, non-violence, and selfless service. He paid tribute to the martyrs of the nation and said that the Constitution is the soul of Indian democracy, with Dr B.R. Ambedkar as its chief architect.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister underlined that the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, slated for completion in the coming years, will cut travel time between Guwahati and Dibrugarh by nearly an hour, significantly boosting regional connectivity. He also shared that on January 30, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone of Assam’s second Legislative Assembly complex in Dibrugarh, a move that further strengthens the city’s administrative importance.
Highlighting Dibrugarh’s emerging role as Assam’s second capital, the Chief Minister pointed to the proposal for a Circuit Bench of the Gauhati High Court as another step in decentralising governance. He further drew attention to Assam’s rapid economic ascent, noting that the state’s first-ever participation at the World Economic Forum marked a decisive shift in global perception, with fresh investment proposals worth ₹1.5 lakh crore reflecting growing international confidence in Assam’s development trajectory.

Moreover, earlier pointing out the progress made by Assam, CM Sarma said that the GDP of the state is increasing by 13-15 per cent every year and is expected to touch Rs 10 lakh crore by 2027, which is above the average growth rate of the country.
He also mentioned on the first-ever participation of Assam in the World Economic Forum as a turning point, which marks the state’s growth as an investment-friendly destination. Cultural milestones such as global recognition for Bihu, Jhumoir and Bagurumba, and the granting of classical status to the Assamese language, were also highlighted.
Regarding employment, CM Sarma stated that 1.56 lakh youths have been employed through transparent recruitment processes. He attributed peace accords in Bodoland and Karbi Anglong to stability and announced that Assam will be the first state to provide proton therapy in government hospitals. Adding to the festivities, the Assam tableau headed the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path, marking the state’s progress “From coming last to leading first, our tableau proudly led the procession this”.
