Assam Chief Minister offers ticket if Bordoloi switches sides; BJP, AGP and BPF seal alliance formula ahead of Assam polls

Guwahati: Amid rising political speculation in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on March 17, publicly invited Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that the party would welcome him and offer an opportunity to contest the upcoming Assembly Elections.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said, “I have not contacted Pradyut Bordoloi, but I believe he does not have the requirement to stay back in Congress. I advise him to join the BJP.” He further adds that there has been no communication from the leader so far, and he assured that Bordoloi would be given due respect within the party.
The chief minister also indicated that the BJP would accommodate Bordoloi electorally if he joins, saying a seat would be kept open for him in the assembly polls.
In a separate development, the Chief Minister revealed that the seat-sharing arrangement within the National democratic alliance (NDA) has largely been finalised. The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is set to contest 26 seats, while Bodoland Peoples’s Front (BPF) will field candidates in 11 constituencies. The remaining seats will be contested by the BJP.
Following a meeting in Delhi, the Chief Minister said that discussions also covered the BJP’s candidate list, which is expected to be released soon after the approval from the party’s central leadership.
The Chief Minister added that the list will likely include new faces, particularly women and young leaders, while some sitting MLAs may miss out due to recent delimitation changes.
