Police seize over 1.21 lakh tablets concealed in vehicle’s secret chamber during naka check

Hailakandi: Acting on specific intelligence, the Hailakandi Police apprehended two individuals and seized a large consignment of suspected Yaba tablets during an operation under Hailakandi Police Station limits.
The accused, identified as Mercy Pillei and Thongjagin Haokip, were intercepted while moving suspiciously in a Mahindra TUV vehicle at Bowarghat Part 1 in Hailakandi district, Assam. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered 1,21,000 Yaba tablets packed in 12 packets and concealed inside a specially constructed secret chamber.
Officials said the seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 5 crore in the illegal market, marking one of the major drug recoveries in the district.
Both individuals were taken into custody, and the vehicle was seized. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended distribution network of the narcotics. Police officials commended the team of Hailakandi Police Station for the successful operation, adding that follow-up legal action is continuing as per law.
