Hagrama Mohilary-led council inducts three new Executive Members; oath-taking to be held in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: The Executive Council of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) has been expanded from 14 to 17 members after receiving formal approval from the Governor of Assam, strengthening the administrative setup of the autonomous body headed by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary.
The decision was conveyed through an official communication issued by the Governor’s Secretariat on March 3, 2026. The clearance followed a proposal submitted by Mohilary through letter No. D.O. BTC/CHIEF-2/2026/75 dated February 27, seeking an increase in the council’s strength.
As part of the expansion, three Members of Council have been elevated to the role of Executive Members. Maheswar Basumatary (No. 30 Goreswar ST Constituency), Lakhi Das (No. 27 Nagrjuli Non-ST Constituency), and Karmeshwar Roy (Government Nominated). Their appointments take the total number of Executive Members to 17.
Arrangements have also been made for the oath of office and secrecy. The ceremony will be administered on March 6 or 7 at Kokrajhar in accordance with prescribed procedures. The ceremony will be conducted by Mukesh Ch. Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, and currently serving as Principal Secretary to BTC.
The notification, signed by Bidit Das, ACS, Additional Secretary to the Government of Assam, has been circulated to senior state authorities, including the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, the Chief Minister’s Office, and the Welfare of Bodoland Department for follow-up action.
The move is being seen as an important administrative step aimed at reinforcing the council’s governance capacity and ensuring smoother execution of development initiatives across the Bodoland Territorial Region.
