Governor Reviews NEP 2020 Implementation at Gauhati University: Attends Sanskrit Memorial Lecture

The Governor urges effective NEP rollout, calls for innovation, inclusion and academic excellence to strengthen Assam’s education ecosystem: honours Sanskrit legacy at university event

Guwahati: During his visit to Gauhati University, Governor Shri Laxman Acharya reviewed the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at the college level across the Guwahati zone.

Interacting with teachers from schools and colleges, the Governor stressed the need for effective execution of the policy and urged educators to work with innovation, inclusion and excellence to make Assam a leading state in the education sector. He emphasised that meaningful reforms, strong institutional commitment and coordinated efforts are essential to improve learning outcomes and academic standards.

“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NEP 2020 is emerging as a transformative roadmap to reshape India’s education system and empower future generations”, the Governor asserted during the review meeting.

Moreover, reacting to his visit, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu expressed sincere gratitude to the Governor for chairing the session and offering constructive guidance. He noted that the Governor highlighted the learner-centric and transformative vision of NEP 2020, focusing on empowering teachers, promoting student well-being, and strengthening skills, research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Education Minister further added that multidisciplinary education, industry linkages and collaborative stakeholder efforts would help align Assam’s institutions with the national goals of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The Governor later attended a memorial lecture organised in honour of noted Sanskrit scholar Prof. Jogiraj Basu. During the memorial lecture, the Governor described Sanskrit as the soul of India’s civilisation and cultural consciousness, recalling Prof. Basu’s lifelong contribution to the preservation and promotion of Sanskrit, Indian philosophy and cultural values. He also conferred the ‘Sanskrit Ratna’ honour upon the Sanskrit Bharati National President Prof. Dr Ramesh Kumar Pandey and congratulated the university’s Sanskrit Department for organising the programme.

The visit reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening both modern education reforms and classical knowledge traditions in Assam.
