Gauhati High Court Sets Up Fast Track Court in Zubeen Garg Death Case

Gauhati High Court appoints special judge to ensure day-to-day hearing

Guwahati: In a significant development, the Gauhati High Court has established an exclusive fast-track sessions court to conduct day-to-day hearings in the case surrounding the mysterious death of Zubeen Garg.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the move on March 19, stating that Baksa District Judge Sharmila Bhuyan has been appointed to preside over the newly constituted court. He described the decision as a crucial step in ensuring timely justice and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to pursuing the case with urgency.

The Assam Cabinet had earlier approved the transfer of the case to a fast track court in February. With the High Court now formally setting up the dedicated bench, the legal process is expected to gain momentum in the coming days.

Fast track courts are designed to handle cases on a priority basis through uninterrupted, day-to-day hearings. This mechanism helps prevent delays that often affect high-profile cases in the regular judicial system.

The establishment of the special court has been widely welcomed, with many viewing it as a decisive move towards ensuring swift and effective justice. The untimely death of Zubeen Garg has drawn considerable public attention across Assam, making the expedited proceedings particularly significant.
