Garima Saikia Garg Hails Assam Cabinet’s Approval for Fast-Track Court in Zubeen Garg Case

Family’s plea drives decision as government seeks speedy trial and timely justice

Guwahati: Garima Saikia Garg, widow of the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, on February 27 praised the Assam government’s decision to push for a fast-track court for her the singer’s tragic murder case. She believes it will lead to quick justice and strict punishment for the perpetrators.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during the Cabinet meeting held on the previous day, announced the approval. He states the Cabinet has resolved to approach the Gauhati High Court to constitute a fast-track court for day-to-day hearings. “The government respects the wishes of the bereaved family and is committed to expediting the legal process,” he stated.

Reacting to the decision, Garima Saikia Garg said she had long been seeking an expedited hearing to guarantee swift justice. She noted that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed the chargesheet within three months and had handled the case properly. “A fair and timely trial will bring the truth to light,” she said, adding that no one who loved Zubeen would want the accused to secure bail.

Moreover, she warned that failing to punish the guilty in such a high-profile case could severely shake public faith in the justice system. Garima also raised doubts over claims that one accused, Siddharth Sharma, invested Rs 1.10 crore, stating she does not believe he has such financial capacity.

Garima Saikia Garg reiterates that the case should be treated as special, urging immediate hearings and no bail for the accused. She dismissed claims of political conspiracy, saying the SIT findings clearly identify the culprits.
